Five-Days Chogoria is by far the most spectacular and beautiful route on Mt. Kenya, in which you ascend from Chogoria Route and descend through Naro Moru Route. This is only possible during dry weather.

What to bring on trekking either Kilimanjaro or Mt.Kenya?

  • Waterproof rucksack with day pack
  • Sleeping bag (covering at least 3 seasons)
  • Roll mats and insulation pads
  • Comfortable hiking boots, light walking trainers thongs (flip – flops)
  • Gaiters (useful when encountering snow)
  • Wooden walking stick / ski pole
  • Sunglasses or snow, goggles, sun hat, balaclava or woolen hat
  • Warm scarf, gloves, mittens and thermal underwear
  • Sweaters / jumpers, anorak / raincoat, water and windproof pants, jackets, t-shirt, several pairs of socks
  • Long sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries and toilet paper
  • Sunscreen and lip salve
  • First aid kit and insect repellent
  • Flash light (head mounted preferable) and spare batteries
  • Water bottle
  • Whistle, some plastic bags

Itinerary

Day 1 :

Depart Naro Moru River Lodge in the morning after sorting and preparing the hiking equipment’s in addition to briefing from our guide(s). You are driven through Nanyuki, Timau and Meru before arriving at Chogoria Town and then through the rain forest gate to the road-head, (3200m). Have an overnight stay at the gate in tents.

Day 2 :

After Breakfast a slightly longer walk follow the path through the giant heather and forest up to chogoria road head, then detour with a descent from the route crossing stream on the nithi falls to Lake Ellis.for over night at 3650m.5hrs (700m Ascent).

Day 3 :

Trek along gorges Valley descending to Lake Michaelson, then Lunch at Vivienne. Trek through the magnificent castle rock’s to Mintos Hut and have an overnight camping – “whole day hiking”

Day 4 :

Hike up through Square Tarn to climax at Pt. Lenana, 4985m which is the third highest peak on Mt. Kenya. Descend via Austrian Hut then down to Mackinder’s camp for an overnight stay in our Teleki Lodge cabins at an altitude of 4150m, trekking time 5-6 hours.

Day 5 :

Descend via Naro Moru Route vertical bog arriving at Met Station before 12.00noon, where you will be picked by our vehicle for a transfer back to Nairobi to arrive in the evening.
